Abraham Erb staff and students have been preparing a memorable Remembrance Day ceremony for November 9th from 10:10-11:10 a.m.  Remembrance Day is a time to think about the importance of peace, freedom and everyday heroes who are part of all of our lives.  We take time to remember because we know that freedom isn’t free. To remember is to work for peace. We encourage you to take some time to talk to your children about how they can work for peace in our school, in our community and in our homes.

Since November 11th falls on a Sunday this year, we hope that your family will be able to attend a Remembrance Day ceremony happening throughout our area. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 530, in Waterloo is inviting everyone to join them for a brief parade and ceremony at the Waterloo Cenotaph at 10 a.m. and there will be a gathering at the Waterloo Cenotaph at 4:45pm where you will clearly hear the Waterloo Bells Of Peace ring out beginning at sunset, which will be 5:01pm.

Communities across Canada will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War with the ringing of 100 bells. The ringing of bells will be like the moment in 1918 when church bells across Europe tolled as four years of war had come to an end. So this year, at sunset on November 11, the bells will ring at Parliament Hill, city halls, places of worship, military bases, Naval vessels and at ceremonies across the country to honour Canada’s Veterans and commemorate the end of the First World War.

When you hear the bells toll on November 11,  take a moment to pause and remember all those who served and sacrificed.  We will remember them.

Lest We Forget.
