Dear Abraham Erb families:
It’s time once again to wrap up the school year and look forward to summer vacation. I don’t know who is more excited, me or my kids?!?
This year at Council we have enjoyed being involved in the school in ways that support the students and their families. A big chunk of money from our fundraising this year has gone towards building primary and junior stage areas (those big semi-circles of stone on the back field). Most recently at our Fun Fair, which was a HUGE success, we enjoyed large crowds and raised our biggest profit EVER. A massive thank you to our “Fearless Fun Fair Executive”, our school families and surrounding community for their tremendous support.
As a reminder, Council meets once a month in the school library for an hour or two. The Chairperson works with the Principal to create an Agenda to guide the meeting, our secretary takes Minutes and the Treasurer tells us how much we have in the bank. We talk about initiatives in the school, what’s going on at the Board and Provincial levels and brainstorm ways to be involved in our classrooms and the community.
Other ways to be involved in the school include volunteering in your child’s classroom or on field trips, helping out on pizza days, cataloguing home reading books, reading in the classroom and helping out with fundraisers just to name a few.
Why not come to a meeting? Bring a friend with you. Introduce yourself, tell us about your children and we’ll do the same. Ask a question, offer a comment or just sit quiet and listen.
I have been Chair of School Council for the past four years and it is time for me to step down. I am happy to pass the torch to Kelly Swanson, who has been involved with School Council for several years now, and I’m confident that Kelly will be a fantastic Chairperson. I believe it is time for change and that change is good.
Please look for us at Meet the Teacher Night in September. We are planning to have a School Council table in the main foyer with some information and meeting dates so drop by and say “Hello”.
I wish you a healthy, safe and fun-filled summer.
Kind regards,
Phillippa Smith
