Abraham Erb’s 1st Annual SCIENCE FAIR!

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math

What is it?

This exciting, voluntary event will give students the opportunity to have fun preparing and presenting a project for their friends and family to see.

When is it?

The Science Fair will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, from 6:30-8:00pm, in the school gym. Students will also have a chance to view the exhibits with their classes during the school day on May 9.

Who can participate?

All students from JK through to grade 6 are encouraged to participate. This is a great opportunity for students to develop skills and a love for learning in a creative, fun environment.

How does it work?

    • Students choose a topic for their project that relates to science, technology, engineering, and/or math.
    • Projects are prepared entirely at home – no class time will be provided.
    • A display board for the project presentation will be provided for each student.
    • Parents are permitted and encouraged to help with the projects. The bulk of the project should be completed by the student, but parents can provide practical assistance as necessary.
    • The Science Fair is a non-competitive event – each student’s participation will be recognized. The reward is the enjoyment of the project, feeling proud of your work, and having fun.
    • One of our team of “judges” will visit each project to give students the opportunity to officially present their work and answer some questions about it. The projects will not be ranked. Instead, each student will receive a participation certificate.

Further Information to Consider:

  • Students are welcome to complete a project with another student, such as a sibling
  • Tables for presentation will be provided by the school in the gym.
  • Students will set up their projects in the gym the morning of the Science Fair. Students are responsible for transporting and setting up their projects, with help from parents/caregivers as needed. Projects need to be brought home at the end of the Science Fair.
  • Electrical outlets will be available upon advanced request (this should be indicated on the registration form). Students must provide their own extension cords and power bars if needed.
  • If you wish to change your topic or your need for an electrical outlet, please inform one of the contacts or leave a message at the office.
  • In the interest of safety, the following are NOT permitted: live animals, hazardous chemicals, live electrical wires, flammable liquids, or open flames. Please check with one of the contacts below well in advance if you have any questions about safety considerations.
  • See the school website for a link to further resources and ideas
  • Please complete and return the registration form by March 22
